Jimmy Page was wasted and the solo was shit 🙁
This is when I think why I love Joe Satriani SO MUCH, his solos are
amazing, flawless, perfect, emotional and precise, even more live on stage
I hadn’t seen this, well, I think this isn’t the best of LZ performances,
prbably they were overwhelmed by a number of things… the 80 were a very
interesting decade but it was a bit hard (I think) for some 70’s iconic
artists to find themselves in it, especially all the post punk stuff…
Robert Plant was a metal blonde god, sexy and hot as hell… and very much
in the spirit of those times, which are, on the other hand, timeless…
I’ve learnt to appreciate the best of every decade, and definitely LZ are
the face and music of the 70 if you were into rock of course… LZ found
themselves a bit more comfy in the 90 , I think… I love them anyway, they
are already an eternal band.
Phil Colins getting a lot of stick here.. probably that’s why he recently
went public and said his heart wasn’t in it because he was made unwelcome
by Page, because the Led Zep reformation bandwagon was rolling by then and
Phil wasn’t part of it. He also said he struggled keeping time with the
other drummer who was shit, and that Page was so out of it he was actually
dribbling. He spoke well of Robert Plant though.
For those of you too young to know, this was near the end of a non-stop 16
hour long TV concert for Africa, where each band had 15 or 20 minutes on
stage before the next one took over. First 8 hours were played at Wembley
Stadium in London, Europe. Second 8 hours were played in the USA. Phil
Collins who assisted on LZ on drums performed at both half shows and flew
by supersonic Concorde airliner and shuttle helicopters to make it from the
London stage to this US stage before the concert was over.
While very few of the many (50?) legendary bands on stage that day
performed their best ever, the total experience was hugely awesome even for
those of us just watching on TV around the western world. Those who had
money were phoning in contributions to the cause throughout the show, while
almost everyone worked for free. The whole thing had been thrown together
by Bob Geldorf in a hurry because people were literally starving to death
in Ethiopia and other places and they needed the money to fill and
transport entire shiploads of food there. 25 years later most of the
concert (but not the LZ part) was published as a DVD box set, hopefully
with at least some of the profits going to the original charity.
So of cause this was not the best performance of Stairway to Heaven that LZ
did, but it was awesome they were willing to reunite on stage for a few
minutes to help the cause, even if they were not their usual self.
This is Exactly why They should not have played,, I like Phil, and I don’t
know who that black dude is, but the Drumming sounds like shit…… plain
and simple.. and I don’t mean the sound quality either.. nobody will ever
be able to come close to the master, Bonham… ever!!!!!!!
this was nothing more than an abortion! Listen to these two in the mid
90’s…awesome! why did they need two drummers? Phil should have stayed
back stage. This was horrible and the fans deserved so much more.
Geezz…all these posts complaining about Led Zeppelin’s (and Jimmy’s)
performance here. Maybe you phony virtuosos would prefer they didn’t play
at all. Too bad you aren’t old enough to remember the rumors that Led
Zeppelin MIGHT be playing, to reports they had been seen together, to the
waiting for them to take the stage….or maybe you just aren’t Zeppelin
fans.
There’s a major difference between this concert and Queen’s concert….. A
major difference…. Queen owned the whole of live aid……. Other than LZ
who I adore the most sound a bit off….
Pretty sad that he’s so drunk and high.
His daughter scarlet was 14 at the time and I think its sad she had to see
this.
But still Zeppelin rocks.
The drummer -__- bad..
For those who loved their music! In 1979 the listeners of radio station
KOIN in San Francisco California, were given a chance to pick the top 100
songs of the Decade for the ’70s. Stairway To Heaven got over 1 million
votes as the number One song of the Decade. Long Live Rock N Roll!
Jimmy drops his pick and gets handed a new one at 8:59. Haha! With all
his experience, you’d think he would tape a few extras to the bottom of his
guitar or something!?!
I never knew Page and Plant were together smack dab in the 80s. I view the
70s and Zeppelin’s era, then the 80s as total disbandment, then the 90s as
Page and Plant, then the 00s as solo careers and then more Page and Plant.
Then the 10s as everyone back together minus Bonzo.
Solo actually wasnt so horrible, considering Page was obviously high on
something. The drummer(s) were fucking terrible!!!!!! Nice for Robert to
cut in btw while Page was still in his solo :D:D

Live Aid was great, you knew ALL the artists. Not like todays bullshit…..

Man, Page looks like he’s about to keel over.
why the fuck are there 2 drummers? completely threw everything off but did
add power. Such an awkward transition
love Zep with all my heart, but they had a brass neck blaming Collins for
this.
Robert Plant looks just as gäy as Rod Stewart with that crap 80′ hair
style, fking stupid weird ugly decade…

that other bloke.
Best band ever. Bar none.
Screw you people…They were still awesome! ; )
