Led Zeppelin “Moby Dick” guitar lesson. For this Riff of the Day, we use a Catalinbread RAH to recreate Jimmy Page’s beastly tone from the Royal Albert Hall, where he used custom Hiwatt amps. Moby Dick is one of the earliest rock riffs in Drop D and follows a simple I,IV, V chord progression. Page shows how one guitarists can fill in as rhythm and lead guitarist which means a lot of quick maneuvers on the neck There are some tasty bends and a classic Page lick that includes a bluesy rake/arpeggio. And let’s not forget the slurry of pulloffs descending down the strings in rockabilly fashion. Although Moby Dick is an epic drum solo, there are some great guitar gems in there as well. Enjoy your riff of the day guitar lesson!

kathy kuchma says:

Andy, you don’t use a pick when u play the song at the start of the video.

Andrew Gomez says:

i miss guitar lessons with andy :(

shockwave fede says:

amazing

Boyd Thiel says:

I have the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret and wonder if the RAH isn’t
about the same overall tone effect?

franky furbo says:

i’ve seen several guys with different approaches to that final solo, but
this seems like the closest approximation to my ears. it’s tricky, because
on the recording it sounds like 2 guitars doing something slightly
different or the same lick but offset in time. really cool.

Barnekkid says:

Nice job, Andy. Sounds better than Page.

ZeFiiRHD says:

Honestly this didn’t help me at all I can’t tell what your doing at some
parts it’s going way to fast. Please slow it down more

Jordan M says:

Good playing, but horrible to learn from.

Luis Segura says:

Incredible lesson, great tone and beautiful Les Paul……
So. how much this pedal cost????????????????????

Zach Drummond says:

Such a killer set of licks! Love that song! Long live Jimmy Page!

dtreeguy says:

Can’t hear the pick “squeak” sound that’s on the album

Fabian Blöchliger says:

best led zeppelin demos on youtube!

sparkymoo says:

Man, you totally nailed that whole song perfectly.

slickcross says:

What does Andy NOT know how to play. This guy is going places.

littlequacka says:

In the opening riff, the open A you’re playing is incorrect. It’s a G on
the E string.

Geo Guitar Guy says:

Exact model of Les Paul and pickup type used would be nice. Anyone?

SuperCrayonBerry says:

Can you take the time to actually say each position because I can’t get all
of that from your fingers

Lorenzo Chiodo says:

i have this pedal, it’s the beez neez! seriously though, the RAH is the
best. and i got it from proguitarshop! also a plus.

Joe Misek says:

Man, that’s really close to Page’s tone…

Martyballin says:

If they had just sound, no video, I would completely believe that it was
Page himself. Andy is the best damn guitar emulator on the planet.

mesa401 says:

This guy is a much better player than Paul at guitar world.

がってん★ says:

Without pick?

Caleb Frost Sanderson says:

First drop D riff I learned, good times! Where do you get the backing
drums?

nursetom61 says:

Watching you play it almost makes me wish I liked Les Pauls. But alas I
don’t, I like the sound they produce. I just don’t like playing them. I
love my Fenders (I have 3 Strats and 1 Tele) Love the video and song
choice. Gotta get me that pedal. Would sound great with my Highway One
Strat and Fender ’65 DRRi

Sean Lehman says:

Nice lesson, thank you. Only like to share one correction; I don’t believe
the first riff pulls off to an A, it goes to the G (5th fret/6th string).

ekozz says:

Just got that pedal today its realy awesome! Just what i was looping for.

Tomohiko Hanano says:

Very nice and useful video.
Hey Andy, why don’t you play Johnny B. Goode?

Brian Boles says:

way:

note the pulloffs (in the g string)…

Still, thanks for sharing the lesson !

Sal Casabianca says:

great riff

racpa5 says:

Andy kills! Great tone.

Mike Adair says:

The tone coming out of that LP harkens me back to a time before the
over-processed guitars we endured in the nineties. This what I loved about
rock music!

Mr.G-T says:

Another perfect sounding lesson !

G.E.R says:

Hi there. You are a good guitar player, and a good teacher. Thanks for the
