Peter Manzi says:

The Beatles were a rock band, a pop band, a protest band, a folk band and
a psychedelic band. They also did a few blues songs. Why don’t you open
your eyes and mind and read what critics and reviewers have said about the
Beatles. None of Zep’s albums ever made it in any top 10 albums list of
all time. The Beatles have three.. Just about every Beatles’ album is rated
4 1/2 (3) or 5 (8)stars by Rolling Stone. Just three are 5 star albums by
Zeppelin. And Zep’s live album, is rated just two stars- mediocre. I saw
the movie, too- very boring. Ringo Starr had the modesty and common sense
not to play an overblown and distended drum solo like Moby Dick.

Shannon Fisher says:

What a great interview, I guess Charlie was a Zep fan who knew?

Peter Manzi says:

John Bonham is a good drummer not a great one. Ask any drummer that. Keith
Moon and Ginger Baker were much better. And Jimmy Page was an amazing
guitarist- not now though. Jeff Beck is better and likely always has been.
But Beck nor Moon or Baker were in bands that produced music as good as
Zep’s. And yes they are better instrumentalists (except for bass and
piano) than the Beatles- so what? Three singers (Beatles had two good and
one very good) and in a band beat one very good singer. Beatles were best
at harmonizing which is part of rock music young lad. Led Zeppelin were on
the way down when Bonham died. Last two LPs were good- nothing great at
all. I am glad you enjoy and appreciate the Zep as do I but you don’t know
enough about rock music to be believable about the Beatles. Rock music has
always been about the whole of its parts- not who the best drummer or
guitarist is.

Peter Manzi says:

You make a few good points but the Beatles covered many, many more styles
than Zep- except for the blues. Listen to Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt.
Pepper and the White Album. Beatles did more rock and roll songs and better
than Zep’s versions, too. Did you hear closely A Day in the Life? Tomorrow
Never Knows, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Side Two of Abbey Road? The
White Album has a lot of good guitar work, too. The Beatles may sound old
or old hat to you but they have three albums in the top ten albums of all
time- Zep have none. Beatles had three singers too, not counting Ringo.

Norman Ball says:

Is anybody else noticing the body language? Page and Jones want to throttle
Plant, Hold out!

tom stewart says:

Charlie Rose did a great interview here, one of the best I’ve ever seen,
you can see how see how passionate he is about the band which is a rarity
with some interviewers, good job.

eatthisvr6 says:

did you know in your bones that you were the best?
8:40 everybody is quiet and jonesy just says YUP!
that cracked me up lol

KitchenASMR says:

I’m with Plant. Thankful that Led Zeppelin existed, and that recording
equipment existed. But, I don’t need them to make new music. Firstly,
it’s not the same band. Plant isn’t the same person. His voice isn’t the
same. John and Jimmy don’t have to worry about that. I wish more aged
artists would do the same. I also wish more fans were willing to cherish
what was as it was and not expect their favorite musicians to be fleshy
juke boxes.

Peter Manzi says:

Robert Plant’s voice was powerful but not always accurate. And listening to
the same voice over and over again, and with little harmonizing, got
tedious. Ringo was a decent drummer – no Bonham but he didn’t need to be.
People don’t pay attention to drum beats anyway. Keith Moon was a much
better drummer than Bonham. He didn’t need to pound them into oblivion and
never did anything as lame as Moby Dick. George Harrison was a good
guitarist but the guitar was not the feature of the Beatles’ music.
Lennon’s guitar work on Revolution was searing and powerful . And George
also played sitar. Paul McCartney was a better bassist than Jones. No one
mentions the Police as a great band but they came after Zep.

stephen39217 says:

I think they made the right decision about not going on tour. Led Zeppelin
needs to be remembered at their best in the 70’s. Pages skills have
diminished and Plants voice is not the same. Best Band Ever. You better
believe it.

Heather Davies says:

Jimmy Page is absolutely sexy as hell

tracey bailey says:

bless them i think deep down they no that they are all getting older and
perhaps they think that if they did go on tour people would judge them , i
am a great fan and will always be but as robert said he wants to do other
things which is in his blood as a artist !

Rodney Black says:

Led Zeppelin 1. What else can you say? I was a young, 15 year old, up and
coming guitar player when i heard Zep 1. I only thought, “where is this
coming from”? It always will be the standard that ” real rock ‘n’ roll will
be measured”. No vocalist could even dream of touching Plant in his day.
Page was so far out of the box and ahead of everything else that was
happening. Bonzo, nuff said. J.P.J.,genius. Like old, fine vintage wine,
Led Zeppelin. There you have it. Bye, bye.

Jeff Porcaro Groove Master says:

JPJ in the center, page on the right and plant the left. for jimmy, LZep
IS the only direction. plant has other interests. jimmy want the marriage
of LD, plant likes dating. look at jimmy’s body and energy when plant
talks about “other” interests.

Mark Macmillan says:

Nice one Charley.

Jimmy made an excellent point, when you hear a Zeppelin track you can pick
out each member’s contribution.

Joseph V Cardinale says:

As Plant is answering the question about touring you can see in Jimmy’s
face and movements that he is somewhat ticked off.

Willie Hom says:

Led Zeppelin, The Greatest Rock Band In The World!!! :)

roman14032 says:

they could fill every stadium on earth at least twice
it could be worth a billion bucks
plant is just nuts

Brendan Macie says:

When he said “Everyone in my generation wanted to be you!” the look on John
Paul Jones’s face was priceless! Like, “Oh really now?”

Romulo Ferreira says:

What a fucking dickhead interviewer, leave them alone and ask more
interesting questions, it’s led fucking zeppelin for fucks sake!

Peter Manzi says:

You overestimate how important Led Zeppelin is- I know many people who
appreciate all kinds of music and see Zeppelin as a very good come and
gone rock band- And they were not the best band ever, sorry Mr. Black

Zac ReesesCup says:

rush is best band of all time……the the hate begin

Tinker Diggens says:

Oh wow the immediate physical response in agitation, upset or whatever that
was in Page & JPJ when the “continuing tour question” arose!! Hahaha I
think they both wanted to smack the one in the middle.

JamesNZ1000 says:

Interviewer: “Did you believe that you were the best bad alive?”
John Paul Jones: “Yep.”

hahaha! Awesome!

Clearanceman2 says:

Page still looks pissed that Robert wouldn’t tour in 2007.

dudleygarramone says:

Best band of the last 50 years . I listen to a lot of types of music ,
country , rock n roll , punk , reggae , blues , jazz out of all these
genres of music Led Zeppelin is creatively the best band , so many
different layers .

hank1722 says:

Page looked pissed and rightfully so when mentioned why wouldn’t at least
tour a little more after O2…..I’m sure Plant has his reasons and has to
be respected but he should never of made himself bigger than the band with
his ego……Really he should’ve of considered his fans as they could of
pulled it off……..

Peter Manzi says:

Wailing is not singing. Wailing is not subtle or nuanced. Many songs
require both features. Going to California is Plant at his best. The
wailing goes well with simplistic lyrics.

Jeremy Shirland says:

Best band ever, no doubt. Please DO NOT tour without new music… 2007
showed the world everything it needed to. Greatest band of all time…

Carlo Santin says:

Wow look at Jimmy Page’s body language at about the 7 minute mark. He was
not pleased at all with Plant’s response about why Zep didn’t tour after
that 2007 reunion. He looked quite angry. I’m glad they didn’t, things are
almost always best left in the past.

Noah Scott says:

Led zeppelin is one of those bands that nobody doesn’t like everybody likes
them no matter what you say they are one of the best ever their music will
live on

Peter Manzi says:

Who ever said I was trying to convince you of anything? By your comments,
that would be futile. You can’t put polish on a sneaker, but you can
encourage young, uninformed people how to look at things differently. Or
try to.

Astorre Herrera says:

I think Robert refuses to go on tour just to fuck up Jimmy’s mind.

Bob marley The beast says:

May John rest in peace

Im Devy says:

Greatest band of all time.

Eddie Smith says:

I would pay a mint to see Zepplin one last time live

jockejocke1 says:

Charlie Rose idiot. Let ’em talk!

Neil Mercer says:

Oooh, Jimmy Page’s face during Plant’s response to why they didn’t tour
after 2007…. Ouch…. Those chairs suddenly look rather uncomfortable!

thielees says:

Whoa, Jimmy didn’t like Robert’s answer at around 7:15. Body language
speaks volumes.

sLdGlD says:

They are so much better than the WHO, poor Pete. Although the Who has some
remarkable jams they were not as consistent overall.

TheGooseinator says:

The interviewer is kind of an asshole. The greatest rock band in history
deserves better than this!!! :D

Liam Mulcahy says:

without exception, the best rock group EVER, they are true royalty

Michael Weed says:

Best band ever no other band has their range of sound that goes into you
and thru you with indescribable emotion

Larry Gilliam says:

Robert Plant is playing a silly game. There are certain things he had done
but frankly they don’t come close to Zeppelin. Plant has a ego problem and
frankly old dudes like me say-get over it. Without Zeppelin, you mean shit.

DODIOU812 says:

Led Rules!

RealMNeutral31 says:

John Bonham. Good God he was crazy on those drums. Led Zeppelin one of
the greatest bands of all time.

rodentcafeteria says:

Everyone knows that Zeppelin was Page’s band, but at times during this
interview, Jimmy has a look on face as if Robert has absolutely no business
answering whatever question was just asked. He’s looking off in the
distance as Robert talks. He still holds bitterness that Robert did not
want to do a reunion tour.

Alison Edwards says:

YES YOU ARE THE BAND AND YOU KNOW IT….xx

SongWriter111 Oregon says:

I wish they would go on TOUR!

Peter Manzi says:

I saw Zep twice- First time as unknowns In a small club in Boston – great-
played for 3 hours plus. Looked like hippies/stoners. Saw them at time of
Led Zep II. They sucked- distorted could not hear or recognize the songs
Their live lp is mediocre. Another friend saw them in 75 and said same
thing. The Beatles were much more than iconic. They were all intelligent
and socially aware songwriters. Their singing was better- more harmonies
than Zep. What about Yes- they were better musicians than Zeppelin- not as
flashy or as powerful but prog rock never hot home like Zep’s powerhouse
approach.
