Nice job,..Bertha sounds good,..

jerry murphy says:

One of the “secrets” to Bonzo’s playing / style / technique….was his left
hand , the snare hand. During the ” hair metal ” fad of the eighties ,
when everyone was trying to sound like Bonham , most of them got it wrong.
Bonzo did indeed have a helluva “whack” on the two and four…but…he
would often add little grace notes or extra pops that were not nearly as
loud as the primary beat. These happened between the two and four. And it
was’t always real obvious. This song being one of the exceptions as these
grace notes are clearly audible. I’ve lots of drummers refer to this
particular beat as a half time Purdie Shuffle. But I don’t think that’s
entirely accurate. This thing is something truly unique. The gentleman in
this video gets pretty darned close though. I myself can play it…but I
have to be pretty warmed up….and I approach it a little differently. Try
playing it a little open handed. Don’t just use your right hand on the
hi-hat…cheat every once in awhile and use your left hand to augment that
shuffle beat on the hi hat. And don’t get frustrated. This isn’t the
easiest thing to play !

ssn0651 says:

Basically the Purdie shuffle as on Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan .

Joe Nocella says:

Too bad you can’t use a 26″ Ludwig classic maple bass drum. Still sounds
good..

Greg Patterson says:

What’s up with these criticisms? He played the parts correctly. Who cares
if his kick head is loose.

erique johnson says:

jared you always kill it with execution in every video … seriously you
are great.

T.J. Hargrove says:

Jared! Your face is fantastic while you were playing the intro!!!

Doug Baker says:

Thanks for counting the triplet correctly and not “& a” easy to understand

bosephusjr says:

Best & most accurate explanation of the nuts & bolts of that beat. Thanks
Jared!

Peter Sapira says:

What kind of a noncontributing, low vibrational hater would trash this?
Oh. A noncontributing, low vibrational hater.

Daniel Hornick says:

To anyone who thinks Bonham had his bass drum head so loose is wrong. Every
video I’ve seen where people are taking about bonzos drums has talked about
how he tunes his drums tight like a big band drummer.

tone ster says:

im a bass player but you’ve got it brother!!!

umicro says:

awesome! x2 thumbs up

LudwigSC93 says:

Drumeo….I love you humble attitude and you do a great job of teaching!

CHeWy says:

Kick drum head maybe a LITTLE loose? Bloody hell!

Dj senario says:

Bertha is always a good name for something huge, in football we had the big
bag sled which we called bertha and martha was the smaller one to practice
your three point stance lol

Francesco Zampieri says:

nice lesson!
that groove is so simple to hear, yet so difficult to play. I would say
it’s impossible to play it whit the feeling and the sound Bonham had. And
that makes us understand what being a legend means :)

Ken Crombie says:

In the 6 over 4 ride cymbal section – you missed the fact that JB played
all 4 quarter notes on his HH with his left foot…. try that JF! It
makes that part of the groove 1000 times cooler and more difficult!….
Let’s get it right!

Daniel Hornick says:
Guy Clark says:

I have been wanting to learn this groove for years! I have watched a lot of
vids and of course Jared was the best! And I actually can play it now. You
are the best man! Always enjoy drumeo!

Mare Mare says:

Pati se ko magare , opusti se konju hahahaha

gregg jarvis says:

he does explain well- i’ll even send my students here.. i don’t have split

bonzoleum says:

Great lesson Jared!!

DrumHonda says:

there is so much better lessons on this on other videos, why is this guy
teaching…

aard vaark says:

This is the Purdie Shuffle by Bill Purdy. Bonham copied it.

pete strouse says:

hey dill weed tighten up your kick drum head , further more you look
robotic Bonham didn’t look robotic he wasn’t thinking about it so much he
felt it. So it must be nice to to take other Icon’s work and display it as
your own individuality on youtube ………..

daverheu says:

great summary of getting a clean shave without plodding into the shadings
some of original recordings where every beat has varied emphasis to what
feels like emotionalizing the force of total song sound; i’ve always felt
the clarity of zep’s power comes from friends having fun, and who deeply
read each others feelings about the music while playing it — my guess
that’s how we got here from 1969

Richard B. Davis says:

I truly respect your honesty of interpretation and NOT saying this is
exactly Bonham. I think Bonzo played a cool game of making sure no one
could replicate himself.

DavidA says:

That bass drum…
I want it!

M Ace67 says:

bass drum head is gonna fall off…

Nauj Nétsap says:

Gracias gracias. Se agradece el tiempo, la dedicación, el interés, la
pasión. Y sobre todo, para los menos entendidos en el idioma inglés y el
idioma musical, las partituras. ¡No se detengan!

Charles Dominic says:

Super!!!!!

altie29 says:

get paiste 2002’s

T AN says:

Thanks man! One of my favorites to just jam.

pbuotte says:

its actually the Purdie shuffle from 1973 who played drums for Aretha among
many others

Pauly Mack says:

That kick sounds like shite, I dont imagine bonham had it that loose did
he?

TheGuitaristNate says:

Nick Swardson

Frank Odom says:

Thank you sooo much for this breakdown video. I’ve been trying for years to
place that open hi-hat and make it feel halfway good.

Monty D says:

Couldn’t have done it without you

chowin52 says:

really good lesson. really dig some of your insights…like the part where
you say Bonham’s part wavers from perfect click…”and that is awesome.l” !
It is cool and I totally agree. Only part I would change is the feel on
the ride cymbal part. probably not that straight ahead.

Monty D says:

Your ghosts notes are on the ples not the trips. You said it wrong brother.
But awesome lesson. :)

Steven Standlee says:

Such a sick ass groove

荒畑寒村 says:

君らはドラムのセンスがない。死ね。ボーナム先生がどれだけドラムの素晴らしさを我々に教えてくれてくれたかをよく知れ。

Anthonielly Rocha says:

Mto bom… Great’!!!!!

Michael Hubbard says:

I saw Will Calhoun ‘kill’ this at “Bonzo Bash” 2013. I have a favorite
drummer. May Not be the best or whatever, but he’s my favorite. (Bonzo),
and Brian Tichy.

Flont1991 says:
