*The best part of that night at the Kingdome was that I was there and still
have my ticket stub and now I can watch youtube videos of that night to get
a replay of that time way back when i was 19 years old that
summer…….even better I still look younger than Jones,Plant, and Page*
and John Henry Bonham got me to play the drums.
it was Keith Moon… not Keith Richards that said… as a joke, “You’re
band is gonna go down like a lead zeppelin”. Like what others say… “going
down like a lead balloon”… was a reference to the zeppelins flying over
England when they were all very young boys. Jimmy took out the “a” so no
one would pronounce it “leed”… AND so it would be “led”… as in a
continuing journey of a sort. OH, and I was at this show too !…and
Seattle shows in ’73 and ’75 ! HAMMER OF THE GODS !!!!
It’s called “professional jealousy.” He’s probably still pissed off that LZ
knocked them off the top in the early ’70s and continue to sell more
albums, having only been in existence for 12 years versus 50-plus; or the
fact that Page/Jones/Bonham are still considered are considered top rock
musicians of all time. I’d be jealous too. He needs more drugs to ease the
pain.
One of the coolest things about his solos over the years, I think, is that
he never really seemed to plan out or orchestrate this stuff. He’d just a
rythm in mind and let it evolve, for however long. Lots of drummers have
tried this, and people quit listening. John Bonham was a ‘drummers’
drummer’.
It’s funny to watch Keith Richards criticize Led Zeppelin “They’re called
Led Zeppelin because they never really took off!”, umm, I don’t recall
Rolling Stones ever getting 20 million ticket requests in 1 day. I wonder
how many aspiring guitarist have Richards at the top of their list for
wanting to learn his style? With that note, watching the master here, I
wonder how many drummers ever wanted to be like Charlie freaking Watts?
Long live Led Zeppelin.
You couldn’t hear my bottle rockets. Robert Plant chastised me for shooting
bottle rockets from the 300 level during this bit. “Hey! We’re trying to
get acoustic here!” But that was ’77, and just after the 4th of July. I
miss the King Dome. They blew it up and we are still paying the mortgage on
it.
He’s still before his time today! No one will ever come close to him. Just
the incredibly innovative things he was doing back then are still amazing!
Imagine if he had a kit like Pert’s! Good Lord!
Shades of Max Roach drumming in the middls’
R.I.p to the GREATEST, John Bonham.
So…SO good. When someone is really feeling what they are playing it
makes all the difference.
awesome drumming, but the strobe-like film editing nearly gave me a
seizure.

Amazing, one of the most influential people in all of percussion.
incredible – stumbled across this today!
Let alone his ‘single’ kick, that hat foot is a machine! Untouchable foot
work above all………
Amazing talent!
Sr. John Bonham
I was at this concert. It was in the Kingdome, which is now gone…
I like this better than the “speed demo” from the ’70’s
Peter Kroll, Singapore
He was part of the BEST Rock & Roll Band EVER
Being a Drummer , I fully identify with the rhythmic wildness that comes
from the heart!
if one spent whole lifetime on drumming no one knows he could be a drummer
like him. he is Bonzo, the only one
R.I.p

The first song is entitled Out On the Tiles not Moby Dick

My hero. A true inspiration. If only I had of been able to see him live…

Right, but the entire piece had been re-titled “Over The Top” for the ”77
