KTVA – Where The PROOF Is In The Singing

Comments

Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy says:

Regarding My How To Sing Like… Series:

People say “I want to sound like me and not anyone else.”
And I say – Absolutely! No one should “clone” anyone.
But we all have influences, and it is the sum of those influences, and how
we “re-present” them with our own style that makes us great.

Learning a difficult cover song where the bar is set high, is an excellent
grading scale to see how well our technique is working.
This is also true for learning different styles as this increases our
vocabulary for diverse singing and helps us find our own unique voice.

In my “How To Sing Like” videos, I still sound like Ken Tamplin, but seek
to show you how to sing in their “style” safely.

Glenn Hughes – Lou Gramm – Paul Rodgers

When Choosing A Vocal Coach Or Singing Program, Make Sure The Coach Can
Prove Their Technique With Their Own Voice & Their Students Voices Whether
It’s Cover Songs Or Originals.

The Proof Is In The Singing.

Gionny97 says:

Hey Ken I’ve got a question for you:did Robert Plant sing in chest voice in
songs like Black Dog,Immigrant Song having an amazing range in chest
voice,or was he able to use head voice without a proper technique?

It freaks me out that you can sing “Rock N’ Roll” sitting down and playing
the guitar. Isn’t it much easier to do it standing because of the support?
Or does it come to a level when your control just makes it basically the
same?

Brad Zimmerman says:

You don’t mention anything about breathing properly. You’re nailing the
notes but it sounds like your stomach is tight and you’re straining your
chords. If you sang 25 songs like this a night, four or five nights a week,
you’d fry your voice, wouldn’t you?

gear dave says:

Question: In your opinion Which famous Rock n’ roll singers had or has good
technique and which ones doesn’t or didn’t have any technique. Some of them

CornelionSigismon says:

My question is: Robert Plant is a reference for many singers. But how did
he learned? Self-thaught incredibly gifted or classical training? Does
anybody know?

Josh Hiken says:

Hello, I’m a guitar teacher in Orange County and I just wanted to drop by
and tell you that I really respect your teaching method. The SLS school
does tend to make wild promises and I admire your dedication to the
academic, technical and realistic aspects of the topics that you address.

GabrilmanX says:

a question: I’m looking for a song robert plant where half of the song a
cry 40 seconds is sent almost endless. Could you tell me how that song
called?

scottyone71 says:

Ken you break down everything so technically and yet so simply,do artists
still seek you out to help them?

Scalectric Wajaja says:

You are a fucking great singer, I’ve using the Messa Di Voce method of
swelling my voice from falsetto to full voice and back and it’s given me
fairly good results, do you think I may be in a good path to develop my
voice? Since I’ve implemented this technique I’m able to scream those
high notes without pain or hoarse, Cheers from Argentina man!

king henry says:

you forgot to go eeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr after whole lotta
love

daniel casey says:

Do i want to breath strong so i can drop my mask. See what im saying is
when singing with good breath support. I find u can be stronger in the
voice and stop that mask stuff. I might be way off, but i record and find
singing with a lot of breath can make high notes seem stronger. Also robert
plant seems to me thatvhe sings with no mask.. with strength , but that
could be a mike trick who knows

daniel casey says:

Question this singing is cool ,but is it bad for u ,if ur doing it for
years. Robert plant lost his voice i think. Is it from singing this
way..plz help

RJason Twenty says:

omg if i do two lines of the song on this lvl…i think i ruin my
voice…and ended talking nasal..

oscar diaz says:

I sing like shit

MrThomyHopp says:

the intro is sooo simple haha

daniel casey says:

U do sound good.

daniel casey says:

Try it out maybe im right or wrong,

daniel casey says:

What I’m saying is thinning ur voice is key. Let the chips fall as it may.
Let it crack or whatever first, when u use breath Suport it will sound more
clear. U have to sing in the middle. Not nasel or full, but in the mask.
Power is not ur main thing because its will sound shouty. When u do this, u
will find ur mouth is like a smile. He hurt his voice by doing this. It
never was real. That singer would never become a singer in the 40s when u
sang on the streets because it would be week and cracky because it is not
possible to clear it up full, thats the style. He sings all in falsetto
that is in a fry cracking rock way. It started with Elvis when he sang jail
house rock same shit. Watch frank sing with Elvis live. Who has the
stronger voice.

daniel casey says:

I found out how he does it i think. He sings a way that thins his voice
out. He does not shout because he never has to because of the mike. This
way of singing is like, let the chips fall as they may. No perfection, he
is never singing the sameway because he tends to thin out is voice to hit
notes that will crack with singing in the mask. I mean when u see his mouth
its never dropped open, but wide because thats the way that humans thin
their voice out. Example, if u use the (a) sound, but wide ur mouth, it
loses power, but singing that way can make a false range that always ends in
fry notes or cracks. All call this rock singing, it does hurt ur voice in
time. U are not doing this. U are protecting ur voice somehow. I guess u
have a different technique. The way that this guys singing will make it
seem he has a good range, but he has less with this way of singing, but it
makes his voice seem more powerful, but ask this man to sing live without
the mike like opera singer’s and he will sound week. I don’t know were ur
getting ur power, but its good for other singing, but not this. U need to
thin ur voice. I’m sure this could help with the sound. Please message me
back if I’m wrong. I do feel like i’m getting close to sounding like that.

James Rockford says:

not bad

daniel casey says:

I read more down u want to teach a healthy way of singing his style. Thier
is no such thing i think. U thin ur voice, fighting the thining with breath
Suport and rasp by singing in the mask like jail house rock but higher. Yes
u will hurt ur voice through time , but it rocks. Its not strain. The braty
sound helps me find it.
