rhythmantic - Sal D'Amato says:

Gosh, your drums sound just like Bonham’s. Fab tutorial, thanks Terry.
Interesting regarding that hi-hat loop pattern.

Ricardo Chacin says:

so so practic more please

garybsg says:

WOW THANKS I LOVE THAT SONG AND REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME HEARING IDT AND
NEVER KNEW THE INTRACACIES OF THE DRUMS — THANKS SO MUCH

writestuff4all says:

Thanks for cracking the code for me on this. Explaining the potential delay
on the hats was an “AH-HAAAH!” moment for me. Great clip and much
appreciated.

Anthony Mendez says:

fucking love how you explain it all. so much better than a straight up
cover. helps to really get the feel.

Noel dufour says:

vistallites :3 lol

rbjacek says:

Great performance, sounds like original, thanks!

overdriven56 says:

To support what you mention about the looping hi-hat section, I think we
can hear subtle variation in speed at around 3:10 when it gets back to real
time in this isolated drum track Whole Lotta Love (Isolated Drum Track) [HD]

John Miller says:

Dude is great but he has to get off the coke!

rman drums says:

Do you have the transcription of this beat anywhere? I tend to like to read
the pattern and then work it up, even though I can play by ear. It is
difficult for me to practice a beat to computer.

sticksbangskins says:

what kind of sound formula crash is that? sounds great

jaqua524 says:

awesome! lets see a houses of the holy tutorial

jacob kline says:

thankyou so much. ive been trying to comprehend this beat for my band.

sp52803 says:

You’re very welcome! Thanks for the nice words!

whitty whitt says:

Im glad to see theres someone else just as obsessed with bonham as i am.Hes
the greatest. hands down. I idolize his playing so much and i try to always
play to where people can tell i have a heavy bonham influence. Its always a
chalenge learning his grooves and fills and just his whole style. I have
the mans symbol tattooed on my shoulder for gods sake! Im glad to see im
not the only one idolizing his playing. its people like u and me that keep
bonzos style alive. great videos. great drumming.

JVW325 says:

There’s this really subtle open hi hat part as well if you listen closely

Savannah patten says:

much for this lesson! its gonna help me out alotttt cuz im learning this on
drums to play with one of the bands im in ^_^ loll couldn’t figure it out!

django772 says:

Somebody else posted Bonham’s isolated studio track. You can really hear
the nuances such as ghost notes. I’m a bassist but I love to listen to
Bonham. Love his feel and tone and you sound just like him.

bonzoleum says:

@nigollllll It would have been sweet to see a Zep show in person. Where did
you see them?

TheSugaqueen says:

One song id love to learn 🙂

Ibakk73 says:

Nice sound!! I love those…. “Ghost notes” ???

papakeetee says:

is there any possible way you can slow this down even more??? and play it
for like 20 measures? it is kicking my ass! i listen to ti=his song a
million times played it on the dash board of the car for 25 years and now
learning to play its like wtf is he doing??? i know you got it but shit
it’s a bit too fast just the intro. thanks bra u rock! chris boston mass.

SuperEffCee says:

Terry, I get more out of your videos in 10 minutes than I’ve gotten from
watching other people for years! Can’t thank you enough, man! 🙂

nofxrulez1 says:

hey man, great freaking job! Best on youtube. Do you have a video
describing the snare rolls you start at 4:12? I love them but they’re a bit
weird to figure out. Does he use LRLRLRL or RLRLRLR? I think its an eighth
or sixteenth note feel, but any help would be rad!

bonzoleum says:

Thanks Kevjay!

josalazar18 says:

Michael J Fox

jkkdonut says:

this is sooooooo cool, i wanna play like that 😀

sarge7948175 says:

thanks a ton man

tom n says:

I think one of the hardest thing to teach young drummers is the ghost note.
Its all thru his playing. It rolls things along. i saw john bonham live and
he used it all night.

noisysod says:

Sweet groove dude, it takes a brave man to take on a Bonham track but you
do it justice – Thanks for sharing

grooovy7 says:

I never understood how that hi hat sound was achieved until I recently got
some 15 sound-edge 2002’s. Gosh they make that nearly doubled sound because
of the slightly extra rocking motion when played. Doesn’t seem to happen
too well with 14 hats.

miniporter2000 says:

nice drumming, nice kit.

papakeetee says:

terry what is the sticking at 5:00? u play awesome….but…..i am slow to
learn great feel man!thanks for the videos

nykola15 says:

Can someone write drum tab for this song, only rhythm, with ghost
notes…..I was looking on google(991 tabs) but is wrong..thnx

bonzoleum says:

@nigollllll Wow! Thanks for posting!

bonzoleum says:

It’s just 16th notes 1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a but it starts on the ‘e’ of 2. So
after the last ‘boom, boom’ on the snare/ft/bass combo (which land on 1 and
the ‘a’ of 1), the snare roll comes in on the e of the following 2 and goes
trough to the downbeat. So you have the ‘boob-boom’ on the 1 and the ‘a’ of
1 a couple times, then right after the last ‘boom-boom’ you have :
e&a3e&a4e&a (on snare) DOWNBEAT on the 1. Does that make sense? Is that the
part you’re asking about?

Gotica CureHD says:

Muchas gracias por este drumming lesson of Led Zeppelin ¡

mpirikongos says:

pleaaaase someone the tabs or the chords!

PaPaHoss says:

I’m a late baby boomer guitar player, nurtured on L.Z., Z.Z., and Z(appa)..
to name a few.. (No zzz’s intended) I attempt to coach my 12 year old son
about drum beats and grooves. I’ve always felt that Bonham’s grooves sound
to the layman, much differently than what is actually going on, which is
PURE PERCUSSION GENIUS! Bonzoleum breaks it down like no-one ever has, at
least that I’m aware of. Thanks for what you’re offering here Bonzoleum
dude!

bonzoleum says:

Start by playing beats (any simple drum beat) with your left hand on the hi
hat (instead of your right). Start at a slow tempo and play for as long as
you can until your left hand feels funky. Take a break and start up again.
Fight the urge to think “This sucks-I can’t do it!”. KEEP DOING IT. KEEP
DOING IT. KEEP DOING IT.

fatchoppers01 says:

never realized all the ghost strokes in that …..nice !!!

Carlos ricicles says:

This is very helpful, thank you! I need to try and learn the whole song in
4 days to gig it this weekend. I think it might not get played!!

bonzoleum says:

Thank you!

bonzoleum says:

Thank you!

kbaj203 says:

I can’t get over how crisp your kit sounds, very nice job with the video.
Also I know what you were saying about zildjian cymbals and how their bell
sounds as opposed to paiste. Most likely explains why I have all zildjians
except my ride, 20” paiste. You explain bonham’s techniques very clearly
so it was easy to learn, keep it up!

Daniel Ogden says:

hey coudl u uplaod a video of how to play the beat coz i have to play this
song in my band and i need help

Mirikashitakuari25 says:

Hi Terry Keating ^_^ Your my best reference for one of those John Bonham
grooves you are teaching 😀 And im happy. Are you Planning to do some drum
covers of some famous Led Zeppelin songs lately just for a new change of
phase? That would be great ^_^ Thanks Bonzoleum ^_^ ~Charles MAbuhay
