I love the song Babe I’m gonna leave you, but that Joan Baez version made
me wanna puke. Also, covering a tune isn’t stealing, it’s covering.
For anyone who is sick and tired of Zeppelin and some of the other
commercial overplayed bands go check out a German proto metal band from the
70’s called Lucifers Friend. Their debut album (1970) is like a Deep
Purple, Sabbath, Zeppelin combination. Listen to the opening song called
Ride In The Sky pay attention to the horn blast in the beginning and tell
me if it doesent sound similar to a scream in the beginning of a Zeppelin
song. Gee I wonder who the thieving band was??
there are really obvious cases of led zeppelin using other artists songs,
the most notorious is dazed and confused…but come on that doesn`t mean
they are bad musicians!!!. these songs that they plagiarized have that
“zeppelin” sound something the only had. and in the case of the blues is
really difficult to say that they are stealing or not. the blues is a
universal sound, the challenge is to evolve its sound and zeppelin clearly
did it.
A lot of these examples aren’t close enough even for debate, while there’s
some obvious stand outs, like Spirit’s song, which is exact. At least, on
the intro, although one could argue that descending guitar lines all sound
very similar, especially classical. Led Zeppelin are original enough and
amazing enough to not deserve a “thieves” label. There are people out there
who love to dwell on this shit. Guess what? Every artist “borrows”. We are
all influenced by one another. From what they did take in the blues
department, they recreated it and turned into classics. Enough if this
plagiaristic bullshit. If you dig deep enough, all those artists they took
from- those same songs were probably taken from the even older blues
originals. So many who went totally uncredited. I can only imagine how
many. My point is, it’s still great art and creativity. So they took a few
lines and chord progressions. The way Zeppelin does it is celebratory, and
it just so happens to be amazing.
They maybe thieves, but when they stole coal from these mostly obscure
artists, they gave it back to the world as a diamond.
All blues guitar and classical players steal music. Including Blackmore.
The difference is Pages guitar work was far beyond any of the original
songs. Period. Hell Blackmore steals entire lines from Bach and Paganini.
Is he a thief ? No. He is a guitar player. Not the inventor of classical.
Not to mention all of zeps truly original songs. There are only 12 keys and
7 modes to play in. Shit is going to repeat at some point. Lol.
You see the thing is, Led Zeppelin rocked…hard…The Rolling Stones, and
The Who also had great respect and admiration for the Delta Blues and
brought that popular sound back to its country of origin, the U.S. Did Led
Zeppelin “steal” music? Maybe. But I thank them everyday for doing it. The
music they created was phenomenal. They were masters of their craft. Anyone
who plays rock, cant listen to them and say they don’t rock hard. Led
Zeppelin was the greatest rock band to grace the earth. They played music.
They played it very well…Don’t believe me? Try doing what they did. I
love people screaming about “stealing” riffs/songs. Yet most of them have
never picked up an instrument in their life. Being a fan of music is one
thing. Appreciating and knowing music is another. Led Zeppelin Appreciated
good music and played it…As any musician does.
There’s a big difference between stealing, and inspiration or sounding
similar. Plenty, PLENTY of bands have songs that have parts that sound
similar to other songs, either because they liked how it sounded and added
it to their song, or by coincidence.
There’s nothing wrong with that. If it’s not flat out stealing an entire
song, it’s not that big of a deal. Look how many rappers and shit take
samples from existing songs and media, and no one flips out at them.
Rock N Roll derived from The Blues so i’m pretty sure that if you delve
deep enough the poster of this crap could possibly label every great Rock N
Roll band Ever!!! Plagerist?

everyone is influenced by something when it comes to music. if you played
an instrument you would understand. pick up an instrument.you will find
there are hundreds of thousands of songs that have the same 3 chord
progression
uh…the only song that sounds like a legit copy is “Dazed and
Confused”…at least on this video…Why is everyone so convinced that they
stole a bunch of songs? Hopefully not based on this video where there are

First most of the lyrics are completely different and as for tune or a

I didn’t know that people were unaware of the fact that Zeppelin took other
people’s songs and did it in their own way. Granted some of them are pretty
close to the original, but most of them sound completely different besides
the lyrics. It’s no secret that they used old blues songs to write a lot of
their songs so why is everybody trying to ‘expose’ them? And it was over 40

they were better and are remembered more than the originals, change that

Who cares? Some of these are a major stretch. This has nothing to do with
what makes Zeppelin great.

practically a cover, if he’d have just credited them it would have been
fine but he didn’t. That being said the majority are hardly the same…like

I’d have to say that these plagiarism claims seem to be fairly wild and
weak. The ripped off(claimed rip offs) originals are mostly mediocre works
when compared to Jimmy Pages masterpieces. Subjective statements to be sure
but they couldn’t be that far off when you look at the difference in these
songs popularity. Shakedowns are not nice!

a means of learning and having others experience music they would never
have known.
In most cases the versions are so superior, they do not even resemble the
original!
It’s all thanks to The Yardbirds that Led Zeppelin exists. The whole point
of making Led Zeppelin was to keep the yardbirds around.

What The Hell Ever! Zeppelin “covered” other people’s music because they
were inspired by them. And since the songs copyrights were expired, – or
there were no copyrights – they became “public domain” and became free to
use and re-record. EXAMPLE: Paul McCartney taught this to Michael Jackson
when they were friends about the time they were doing duets together, then
M.J. bought up the expired copyrights to some old Beatles songs and they
had a big “falling out”. M.J. then taught this trick to his sister, Janet,
who ripped-off other peoples music; including Peter Frampton.
Yet every time the Zep nail it :O)) talent was always there…
Weren’t a lot of the old blues and folk songs standards of indeterminate
authorship? Yes you can find earlier versions before the Led Zep ones with
other people claiming they composed it, but the earlier versions were
themselves ripped off from something that came before them. I’m not saying
they’re all in that category, but I’d welcome a bit of informed research.
It can’t be stealin’ if they aren’t the same.

similarities. Music sometimes sounds similar, but the similarities here are
nowhere near close enough to call covers, copies, or even derivatives in
most cases.

commenter (clint henry). Firstly, it’s bad enough having all this aggro and
name-calling on music sites but surely far worse when your aggression is

wrong when he is absolutely correct. Unless a piece of music credits the
original composer, it is indeed theft. I’m not a Zeppelin hater by any
means but you cannot simply twist facts to suit your side of an argument.
none of those songs sound the same, except maybe the Dazed and Confused,
and all the Zeppelin songs are way better. of course over the history of
time, there will songs that sound similar. only so much original music can
be written. people just want a piece of the pie that Zeppe made.
