I read an article the other about how drummers should worry more about
keeping time and less about being flashy and I agree with it completely.
Being flashy on drums has it’s time and place, like this song. But putting
in crazy fills at the end of every phrase could get just as boring for
everyone as keeping a beat simple. I’m not a drummer but I feel like they
should just play whatever the song calls for.
If you think John Bonham is great listen to Joe Morello of the Dave Brubeck
quartet from the 50’s and 60’s. Obviously Bonham learned a little from
Morello but not much. Morello is the complete drummer, not the fastest but
has lots of rythmn that most drummers today don’t have. They just bang out
anything that comes into their heads with lots of speed and amplification.
The best drummers today learned things from Joe Morello. His legacy lives
on.
i came here because i was told that John Bonham was the best drummer in the
world… to say the i least i was pretty fucking disappointed… i have
seen worse, but what he does is not something that requires skill nor
imagination… it is in no way hard to do so imo he has no right at all to
be called worlds best or even a great drummer.
The for and against comments are all good and well. You have to take Bonzo
as he was for that time and he was ground breaking for hard rock drumming.
He didn’t invent it by any means but was a main protagonist as was Hendrix
at playing very fast lead guitar. I’m sure there must have been unsung
heros along the way that gave these guys their inspiration.
Sad to see how many view this video got and it not the full video, full
solo is about 14min. You guys would know if you were true led zeppelin fans
and watched this full concert live
Greatest drummer of all time. Zeppelin had the best line up: Greatest

Compared to Buddy Rich this was crap.
The most overrated rock drummer of all time.
John was amazing. Alcohol killed him. Not heroin, not Quaaludes, just good
old fashioned vodka. Goes to show, be careful with alcohol,

I think the best rock drummers are Jaki Liebezeit and Christian Vander.
Those guys IMO put Bonham to shame.

Besides Keith Moon, Bonham was another one of Neil Pearts influences from
Rush.
