If you listen really close, at 4:06 you can hear John Bonham grunting,
“keeping time in other words”, as he plays. Love it!

Ok I just looked it up. This was studio but it’s the mixed track before
solos were put in. Most the overdubs are here. But it’s missing two guitar
tracks and a piano/synth track. It’s pretty cool though.
This has never been one of my favorite Zep tunes. I think Roberts vocals
were weak (and he agrees) but this version is way better than the edited
one that made it to vinyl.

I believe this is rehearsals. I could be wrong but jimmy did record
rehearsals for the knebworth shows.
I can’t get enough of this version. I always wished the version released on
the album had a longer outro.
This song literally means the world to me and my family. Without it I
would not have the name my mom gave me.
Dam what an Amazing song.
I find this interesting, and the comments as well. Zeppelin had the freedom
of unlimited studio time for writing and recording and It wouldn’t be
surprising if this is a demo, or a scratch track or even a physical step of
the writing process for this song, which was written entirely by Jones and
Plant. Page and Bonham had nothing to do with the writing of this
particular song and it is possible the solos were not yet worked out
between Page and Jones (who had laid aside the Mellotron in favor of
Yamaha’s then new GX1 keyboards), which would explain why they are not on
this version. Personally, I don’t think any of this made it on the album.
All of the instrument tracks (except perhaps the acoustic guitar, which is
low in the mix and difficult to analyze) and the vocals on this are, in the
smallest of ways, different from the album. This is possible for a band
with the freedom of recording multiple takes of a song. I really appreciate
the upload and being able to hear it after all this time is nothing shy of
fantastic! Thank you.
Excellent, superb…. the end of the song should have been recorded on the
final version. It’s not really “live at the studio”, the lead guitar is an
overdub, and there seems to be some “backing vocals test” (some “oooos”)
that were not used later on.
God damnit I hate this song but wish this version was on ITTOD…. At least
it resembles Zeppelin.
Those bends come off Jimmy Page’s brown Telecaster with the B-Bender built
in
This version to me is brilliant, and the one on the album…to hear bonzo
laughing and keeping time grunting is bloody unreal.

What is the name of the album? that is the best version by far…
I’m not sure this is a rehearsal but actually the version put on the album
before it was edited and cut down etc because I compared Plant’s voice in
the improv sections at the end are exactly the same.
