played the first D and octave up but that’s not what JPJ is doing. He’s
hitting a low D on the E string and then hitting a D an octave up on the A
string 5th fret.
Personally, I love Bonham to bits, have his band symbol tatooed to the
right leg, which is my bass pedal foot. Still, I think his solo here lasts
waaaaaay too long; we need more of that amazing guitar riff!!
@rnrmustang I have a 5-string bass, and I can play this in standard E
tuning. The pattern on the frets even syncs up pretty well, so I think they
used one for this song.

@iloverush123 Even without using the B-string it’s still pretty simple to
play in standard E. For bass, at least. Not sure about guitar.

@Onsube Uhh, John Paul Jones didn’t own what we think of as a 5 string
until the early 90s. Extended rage basses didn’t exist when this was
recorded.
