Onsube says:

@iloverush123 Even without using the B-string it’s still pretty simple to
play in standard E. For bass, at least. Not sure about guitar.

hahaDominionRod says:

@hahaDominionRod I guess you could do it in standard tuning if you just
played the first D and octave up but that’s not what JPJ is doing. He’s
hitting a low D on the E string and then hitting a D an octave up on the A
string 5th fret.

TheSleepySurprise says:

can we shut the fuck up about tuning and just listen to the fuckin song

Matheus Henrique says:

What makes the guitar riff so good is to wait for it all the song o/

BluDavid100 says:

@rnrmustang probably but i think it was common in blues.

Onsube says:

@iloverush123 >implying 5-string bass guitars didn’t exist in the 70’s

rnrmustang says:

This has to be one of the first uses of Drop D in a rock band?

Josh Moss says:

@Onsube I’m not saying that, because they did. en dot wikipedia dot
wiki/Fender_Bass_V But they weren’t tuned B E A D G.

K Boss says:

@j0hnss0n nothing is ever about the drummer or bassist… always about the
lead guitarist and lead singer for some reason… i hate people.

CARNLOU says:

Personally, I love Bonham to bits, have his band symbol tatooed to the
right leg, which is my bass pedal foot. Still, I think his solo here lasts
waaaaaay too long; we need more of that amazing guitar riff!!

Josh Moss says:

@hahaDominionRod No, JPJ played it in standard tuning. He’s doubling what
Page is playing.

MrStephenman83 says:

LED ZEPPELIN

Jacob Wynn says:

COME BAK WHEN U LEARN THE FUKIN LANGAUGE!!!!

Onsube says:

@rnrmustang I have a 5-string bass, and I can play this in standard E
tuning. The pattern on the frets even syncs up pretty well, so I think they
used one for this song.

Héctor Valdivia says:

master solo!

Josh Moss says:

@Onsube Uhh, John Paul Jones didn’t own what we think of as a 5 string
until the early 90s. Extended rage basses didn’t exist when this was
recorded.

Onsube says:

@hahaDominionRod …it’s not impossible to play the song in standard E on
bass, because 1. I have a five-string bass and 2. the song is played in
standard E on bass regardless.

Fredigundis22 says:

@KarimBoctorAwad It’s about the music.

Salvatore MARINIELLO says:

indimenticabile!!! Anche sigla di “per voi giovani” programma radiofonico
anni70′

Martin Johnsson says:

why do people talk about guitar/basstunings? I thaught this was all about
bonham?

hahaDominionRod says:

@Onsube Technically it’s impossible to play this song in standard E. It’s
played in Drop D.

Rick Riley says:

I’ve always loved bass and drum solos

Josh Moss says:

@Onsube That’s what I was saying, JPJ recorded this on his Jazz Bass.
