What makes this track for me are the phase-shifting, the left / right
channel shifting (a favorite gimmick of Jimi’s), the alternating soft and
loud passages, and the bass.. By the way, did you know that when Plant and
Page were first forming LZ they wanted Barrie “BJ” Wilson as their
drummer?.. He told them to piss off and stayed with Procol Harum (my
favorite band) and that’s how they ended up with Bonham, who was far from
their first choice.. I don’t make up this stuff.. Wilson who sadly passed
away in 1990 at only 42 was one of the most talented, inventive rock
drummers who ever lived and for what it’s worth, PH was John Lennon’s
favorite band.. they don’t get 1/100th of the attention (or airplay) as LZ
does.. they’ve never been inducted in to the worthless RRHoF despite
cranking out one masterpiece album after another since 1965.. I think it
takes a sophistacated listener to truly appreciate them, and yer average
radio station listener (or rock critic) simply doesn’t qualify.. you’ll
hear stations play “Conquistador” and “Whiter Shade..” and that’s about
it.. PH is still around, although Gary Brooker is the only original member
of the band left, but I listen to them more than any other except perhaps
The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Again, music is a very personal thing, and you
can agree or disagree with me.. that’s fine.. but I urge you to seek out
and listen to some of PH’s albums, (especially “Home:, :”Broken
Barricades”, “Shine on Brightly” and “Grand Hotel”.. they’re all on yt in
their entirety.. and / or watch some of their many live, filmed concerts on
yt.. maybe they’ll click for you like they clicked for me way back in the
late 1960s.. I sw them in 1970 at The Fillmore West when I was 21.. Bill
Graham took my ticket at the turnstyle.. my friends and I sat on the floor
not twenty feet from the stage.. it was a concert I will never forget..
