I’ve known this Zep song for 40 years, but it’s only in the last 5 years or
so I learned
some of the music (the acoustic guitar intro) is plagiarized from a song by
the band Spirit, “Taurus.” Led Zep is currently (if belatedly) being sued
over it. And it took me till yesterday to learn the title is identical to a
1960 single by Neil Sedaka also called “Stairway to Heaven” (findable at
yt), It seems awfully likely Plant got the concept of a stairway to Heaven,
& the title, from Sedaka’s song. Personally, Zep’s “Stairway” lyrics never
made a lot of sense to me. Sedaka’s lyrics make more sense, & are more
romantic & entertaining, imo. (BUYING a stairway to Heaven. WTF?).
